Grannie's traditional pot holder?

My ex-tea cozy is progressing sloooowly. I have my university entrance exams coming in a month so I really have to study. And that means not to knit. I've managed to knit only few rows, but I now know for sure that it's way too small. I really don't like when my projects won't go as I want them to..

That's the tea cozy we normally use. As you can see, my Grannie's traditional is quite a bit smaller. I'm sure it won't stretch enough to be usable, at least as a tea cozy. Since the knit is quite thick, Amoena suggested to just make a pot holder. I think I'm going to go with that. Mother's day is coming soon too so I can give it to my mom. If I can finish it by then. That way I don't have to watch my failure around our kitchen.

The first cucumber of the year

I finished the body of my myriadog yesterday. I can't believe how much time it took to crochet those few last rows, I should definitely shape up. Anyway. I had some troubles with the stuffing. It was too soft and pillow-y and it just didn't want to go inside my amigurumi. And the end result was way too sloppy and shapeless. But no can do. It was the only stuffing I had.

Just checking out the views...

I kinda like the fact that it's currently looking like a thick cucumber. That's also the reason why I made legs for it from crochet hooks and put it stand on the green house. That's what cucumbers do all the time, right?

Another Apple Cozy

I crocheted another apple cozy on Friday. I went to visit my parents and my mother told me that my sister's birthday was on the next day. I had no idea because some time ago I accidentally erased all my calendar entries, including birthdays. I felt sorry because I didn't have a birthday present for her, so I decided to crochet her an apple cozy. My mother doesn't knit much, so she didn't really have any excess yarn laying around. I found one half-knitted mitten (that was actually knitted by my sister!) and unraveled it. Sometimes you don't have a choice.

I like this apple cozy better. The white color looks very nice with the red apple. Very elegant. I didn't follow the pattern exactly, because I had to rely on my memory. I think I added few extra rows because this cozy covers the apple more nicely. My sister seemed to like her apple cozy, or at least she thought it was funny. I did gave her some Aino Aalto drinking glasses too, because I managed to have some extra time for shopping on Saturday.

Grannie's Traditional Tea Cosy

I found this tea cozy pattern some time ago. I really liked the look of the pucker, and since I had nothing in my queue I decided to cast this on.

Took me few tries to get the idea of how to make the pucker. And now I think I'm pulling the yarn too tightly.. The base is just about 20cm, instead of 26cm. Although it is quite stretchy, I'm not sure if it's stretchy enough. Also if stretched too much it won't preserve the heat as efficiently. I think I'll just make few small extra pieces to make it larger or something if it's way too small.

Myriadog slowly progressing

I finally started the "Werner the Wiener Dog" modification. It will be my last "Amigurumi Super Happy Cute Crochet" modification. I think I've done enough harm to Beth Doherty's lovely patterns now. Anyway. I call this project as "myriadog" because it sounds nice, but also because my doggie will have several pairs of legs in myriapod style.

Don't let the muzzle fool you.

The body is almost finished, and I'm still not bored with it. I get usually bored with small projects because they end so soon... and I get bored with bigger projects because they never seem to end. But at least I'm practicing my patience.

J.R. is currently knitting a tea cozy for us. It will come in need now that we have our new tea maker. It doesn't keep the tea warm forever like our old tea maker, so the tea cozy will come in need.

Amoena's Apple Cozy

I found this lovely apple cozy pattern from Ravelry some time ago. I don't like to do small projects because they end too soon, but I decided to crochet one of these because they seemed so handy. I love green apples and I often take one to school for snack, and now my new apple cozy will prevent my apples from getting bruised! I would have wanted to crochet more than just one cozy so I could have give them to others as gifts, but unfortunately I only had one suitable button.

I hope that the other apples are not jealous.

Fairytale finally finished

"Straight out of a children's fairytale, this sweet fawn's eyes will melt your heart". That's how the "Friends Forever Fawn" pattern is introduced in Amigurumi Super Happy Crochet Cute book. But I think that my version of this fawn is more out of a children's nightmares... I'm super happy that J.R. gave me the idea of spider legs, because they turned out so cute!

But honestly, those eight legs were awful to make. I attached some cotton wool around the wire legs to make them soft and nice to touch. After that I sewed the crocheted pieces around the padded legs (And you can see in the picture how uninspired I was when sewing the legs. My stitches are all over the place). It would have been a bit nicer without the stripes. I'm not so keen on switching the color all the time.

Ready to give a neck massage?

I also wanted to give small wings to my fawn. I took the tail from the "Skelly Fish" pattern and for the second wing J.R. helped me to reverse it. I think they made an awesome wings and I like the way they sit just above the legs.

"Fairytale Gone Bad" is actually my second "Amigurumi Super Happy Crochet Cute" modification. I have made alien piglet earlier. I didn't modified the pattern much, I just used unusual colors and plastic cat eyes.

Mischievous but still somehow harmless. That's my alien piglet.

And there is still at least one modification to come! I'm going to take the "Werner the Wiener Dog" pattern and turn it to a green myriapod.

Miss Baa-Baa-Piggy

I really don't know how to explain how I got the idea for this. Let's just say that the idea is combination of the facts that Amoena calls me piglet sometimes (I hope that it's because she thinks I'm cute and pink and not that I stink and eat everything or something) and that "Mää" is Finnish onomatopoeia for sheep and also a sign of boredom, frustration etc, at least for us (same as "blah" in English). 1+1 = baaing piglet, or määkyvä possu. Or Miss Baa-Baa-Piggy :

Am I cute or what?

I used Beth Doherty's Piglet-pattern from her book Amigurumi Super Happy Crochet Cute and for the fur I simply attached pieces of yarn to the body and fulled it. It didn't full as much as I wanted because the yarn I used is only 75% wool and because I was lazy and didn't work it as much as I could. I've wanted to try making a fur like this and as I thought, it looks great!
